What is the Singing Sword?
I can't imagine how anyone could visit this site without already
knowing quite well what it is, but perhaps I can elaborate...
Singingsword.com is the all-purpose personal website of Christopher Joseph Culter.
The domain name itself originates from a fictitious company,
Singing Sword Software,
which as far as I can tell dates back to September of 1997 with the creation of the
terrible entity which is called Maze. I called it "Singing Sword" for two very good
reasons:
1) Swords are cool.
2) Swords that sing can only be cooler.
In fact, the majority of my earliest forays into pixel-by-pixel computer art had
much to do with swords, as did my very first creation with that magickal 3-D
raytracer, POV-Ray.
I probably got into swords because fighter jets really can't be
drawn. (Have you tried?) Western mythology has singing swords floating
all over the place, most notably in the legends of Beowulf and Arthur. The idea is
quite unoriginal, but it has a long and glorious tradition. Oh, and I would like
to emphasize that I conceived Singing Sword Software long before I became aware of
the novel by Jack Whyte.
I bought "singingsword.com" long ago, but the site first became available to the
masses on the eve of July 5, 2001. And it's only been improving, albeit slowly and
without any sort of plan. The internal links at the top are quite archaic, and I
suppose I'll have to overhaul everything, some day...
Singingsword.com, indeed the very HTML file which you are presently reading, is
physically located on the hard drive of a server in
Eric Rosenberry's basement in
Beaverton, Oregon. I owe him much thanks for this.
Contact Info
I can no longer afford to distribute contact information online. If you want to contact me,
I'll be more than happy to hear from you; just send email to "chris" at this domain name.
Unfortunately, if I were to spell out the address I just described, it would
immediately be scanned and spammed by browsing robots that scrape up anything with an "at"
symbol so that they can send out more important messages about free investment
opportunities. Such is the Internet.
